In a pathbreaking achievement that further cements her position in cinema history, Deepika Padukone has become the first Indian actress with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This places her among the legends of world cinema and showcases the burgeoning impact of Indian talent around the globe. As announced by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Deepika is part of the Walk of Fame Class of 2026 alongside Emily Blunt, Chris Pine, Gal Gadot, Christina Ricci, and other awardees from Hollywood’s motion picture fraternity.
Raised in Bangalore, born in Copenhagen, she started as a national-level badminton player before transitioning into modeling and then acting. She made her first appearance on screen in the Kannada movie Aishwarya (2006), but it was her Om Shanti Om (2007) alongside Shah Rukh Khan that established her as a leading actress in the Bollywood industry. In subsequent years, she has portrayed highly praised roles in intellectually focused films like Piku, Padmaavat, Chhapaak, and Gehraiyaan, which speak of her dedication to art and relentless will to challenge herself.
Deepika Padukone’s foray into international cinema began with her starring alongside Vin Diesel in xXx: Return of Xander Cage (2017). The film unlocked new opportunities for her global brand representation, enabling her to represent India and to actively participate in events like the Cannes Film Festival and the Met Gala. In 2018, Deepika Padukone was listed in Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People, which further highlighted and underscored her global influence.
One of the most well-known honors in the entertainment industry is the Hollywood Walk of Fame, which consists of more than 2,700 stars along Hollywood Boulevard. To be awarded, a nominee needs to be in the industry for 5 years, have received notable recognition, and have a philanthropic impact in the community. Deepika Padukone was an eligible candidate because of her advocacy in mental health through her foundation, Live Love Laugh, as well as her other social engagements. Her selection was finalized by the board of directors of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce after they convened a committee in June.
This award is not only Deepika's achievement but also a hallmark for Indian cinema as a whole. It marks progress toward the acceptance of Indian films and filmmakers abroad. In addition, it inspires many South Asian creators to aim for worldwide reach.
Deepika thanked everyone with her simple “Gratitude...” Instagram story showcases how down-to-earth she is despite being internationally acclaimed. Her grounded nature is indeed refreshing. While there is no fixed date for the unveiling, it will take place in approximately 2 years, which is the time frame set for the Walk of Fame's standard practices.
Deepika receiving this acknowledgment makes her an icon of cultural combination, where achievement is joined with Indian narratives as well as talent at the international forefront. Her star on the Walk of Fame adds to the narrative that India is gaining recognition as a storytelling powerhouse.
