Power from the Roof

In both urban and rural areas of India, millions of houses have hollow roofs that receive a lot of sunlight during the day. They are great for capturing the sun's energy and turning it into electricity. When you can generate your energy and power from the roof, why leave the roof unoccupied?

A photovoltaic system, known as a rooftop solar power system, has electricity-generating solar panels installed on the roof of a residential or commercial structure. The various components of the system include photovoltaic modules, mounting systems, cables, solar inverters, and other electrical accessories.

The process of using solar energy is not particularly difficult, and anyone with an ideal roof can do it independently. Homeowners can harness the sun's energy by using rooftop solar to generate electricity for their daily household needs. Direct current (DC) is produced when photons—energy from lightning—strike a rooftop solar panel. Direct current can be used to power safety devices.

In addition, rooftop solar panels are equipped with inverters that transform direct current electricity into alternating current (AC), the type of electricity used by many home appliances and devices, including televisions, computers, and even washing machines.

Benefits of a Solar Rooftop System

Below are some of the benefits of a solar roof system:

Cost reduction:

Saving money is the main benefit of installing a rooftop solar panel on your home. Compared to industrial and commercial tariffs, rooftop solar panels are 17% and 27% lower, respectively.

Guaranteed investment:

It is difficult to calculate the cost of electricity for a specific period. The cost of electricity produced by solar roofs, on the other hand, can be easily estimated. One could figure out the cost of energy production for decades to come. As a result, it is a safe investment.

Increases energy availability:

Many people in both rural and urban India continue to have inadequate and unreliable electricity supplies, even though power shortages are rapidly reducing. In such cases, energy from the sun fills in as a practical, solid source of power. Solar home chargers are eco-friendly because they use the sun's energy to generate power. Moreover, their operating costs remain constant.

Reduces environmental impact:

Solar panels reduce carbon emissions by generating electricity from sunlight. As a result, they are less likely to pollute the environment than conventional energy sources. They work quietly and produce fewer polluting gases than generators. Moreover, it is an efficient way of generating energy to combat climate change. Rooftop solar is therefore ideal for reducing carbon emissions.

Low maintenance costs:

One of the main factors that underline their importance is the low maintenance requirements of rooftop solar panels. If they are kept in good condition, they can last more than 20 years.

Types of Rooftop Solar PV Systems

There are three types of rooftop solar PV systems:

Grid-Tied: The primary purpose of these rooftop solar systems is to feed the generated energy back into the grid while you use it to power your home. The inverter shuts down the system during a power outage to prevent utility workers from being electrocuted during grid repairs and to prevent power from entering the grid.

Grid-interactive: When there is a power outage, this system can support the load with either a diesel generator or battery backup.

Off-grid: This solar system is not designed to work off-grid, as the name suggests; rather, it is made to operate only with a diesel generator or battery backup in off-grid applications.
