As her story goes, Devi Bramhcharini was born to the king of the Himalayas. A strong devotee of lord Shiva, she yearned to acquire his love and wished to marry him. But getting a god to marry you isn't an easy task. Therefore, she took a pledge to keep an indefinite tapas for him. She left home at a very early age and worshipped him for thousands of years - only surviving on fruits, water, meditation and her unconditional love for him.
Her devotion towards Lord Shiva impressed all the gods in heaven and earned appreciation from Saptarishis. At the end, Lord Shiva had to comply.
She's a form of Mata Parvathi and Maa Durga, and is a great example of resilience, devotion and living a life of penance, hence earning the title of "Bramhcharini" meaning celibate.
She appears wearing a white saree, holding a japmala and a kamandalu in her hands. She's the goddess of love, loyalty and devotion.
What we can learn from her in today's day and age - is the fact that true dedication and pure intentions towards a dream can make even the greatest gods bend. Find it in you to pursue your desires, dedicate your life to it - and the universe will comply.
